This week’s #castified winner is Knut Lingman! Following his appearance on Seal Team’s episode 2×19, he uploaded a picture of himself (on national TV!) to social media, earning him some Castifi Swag and a few other goodies!

It’s easy to forget that behind the story that unfolds on screen, there are countless people with their own amazing stories involved in the making of each project. From East Germany to Los Angeles, Knut has lived a fascinating life and keeps on pushing his own limits. We should all learn a little from him, and the best way to do this is by reading the article below!

Where are you from?

I was born in East Germany. My parents didn’t like the way the Russians were treating us and so we escaped to West Germany. My family immigrated to the U.S. just before my second birthday and we ended up in Salt Lake City, Utah where I grew up.

I joined the Navy at the age of 18, learned to be a construction electrician and was stationed in Port Hueneme, California. Four years later when I got out I realized I didn’t like the cold winters in Utah, so I moved to California. I got a job working for the phone company doing construction for 35 years. I retired from that and needed to challenge myself. So I became an actor and I’m having the time of my life!

Can you tell me about your experience with Castifi?

Other background actors suggested I try Castifi to get more parts (back in 2017!). It seems that Castifi has been growing their client base and there is more work available. Castifi also booked me on event gigs which were cool. They have been my only source for those so far.

Castifi note: Knut is referring to our Event Staff & Brand Ambassador program. In addition to booking actors, we also work with clients in the Event industry who have been praising actors for their ability to memorize information and their outgoing personalities, making them perfect hire!

Can you tell me about your experience on Seal Team?

Castifi has booked me on two Seal Team episodes. For the first one, I was a customer in a café. I was surprised that they actually wanted me to eat the food. It was a really good piece of carrot cake. The second episode I worked on I was a Veteran at a VA hospital. There were a lot of extras there and they took great care of us. It was a three-day shoot that was well orchestrated.

What are you most excited about for this series?

I hadn’t watched the show before I worked it. That last show dealing with veterans committing suicide really hit the mark. I know several men in our battalion who had been to Vietnam had and had a lot of trouble dealing with their memories of the war, leading one friend of mine to take his own life. I applaud the show Seal Team for tackling the subject.

What advice would you give to aspiring actors?

Enjoy the ride. Use every opportunity to learn and experience what life has to offer. Every job I’ve had has been different. A new place. A new part. A new experience. When the opportunity comes along for a part a little out of your comfort zone, challenge yourself. No matter what happens good or bad it is an opportunity to learn.
